In November, the company laid off about 88 people from its workforce . . .
Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente said he was concerned about Empire Aero’s stability because the aircraft maintenance industry was being affected by the national economic downturn. . .
Local officials have billed Empire as a key element of the rebirth of Griffiss . . .
More than $27 million in county, state and other grant money has been spent on structures now being used by Empire, he said.That's a lot to spend for one company . . .
Not mentioned is the major money spent on an MVCC aircraft maintenance training facility that is closely associated with EAC.
Also not mentioned is that this is only a portion of what has been spent on an airport that is clearly too big for our needs!
Even if Empire leaves, that money isn’t lost, Picente said.
“It will benefit us no matter who is there,” he said
Yeah? HOW? . . . I see just more empty buildings that the taxpayers have to market and pay to maintain.

If Picente had half a brain, he'd be dangerous. For once, I'd like him to say something that made any sense.
Picente is a protoge of Griffo, another local genius. What do you expect?
This company was bankrupt and losing millions in Miami. The state when Picente worked for Pataki brought them here with a $20 + million grant package. The locals added more. It was a higfhtly speculative prospect and deal in the first place with Picente and Griifo leading the charge. And, it was used as a reason for moving the no flight airport to Rome at a cost of more public millions. No private investor would have ever invested in the company. It was only a matter of time when it collapsed. They will peobably then leave for a community that will give them more public money.
It sounds like Picente is hinting that the company is about to blow town. Dimeo just went to Israel to meet with company officials. It don't sound good. Let's see the local powers that be put a spin on this one, i.e. "this can be a positive for the community!", ala the chip plant fiasco. They could at least wait until just before the C.E. election.
EAC left Miami because the taxes on the hangar were raised. Not because they were bankrupt. NY State made an "offer they couldn't refuse". After they moved the company and the Miami people to Rome, (and let me tell you what a joke of a show the locals put on to get the Miami crew to move to CNY so they can boost their tax base) they used their expertise in the industry to bring the hangar up to par to make it an MRO. Along with the Miami people came the Miami customers that were brought along for the ride. After EAC was established they 'let go' all but a couple of the Miami crew to be replaced by inexperienced 'good ole boy' crew. They treated the long standing Miami customers like garbage and milked them for all they had. Jetblue saw this and ran like a little girl. The company is going down hill for many reasons. Insiders know its a matter of time. Charma is a bitch!!!! Good Ridence to CNY and Empire. Maybe they can turn the hangar into another Walmart. Thats all the employees left that work at EAC are good for!!!!
