GE has to build a facility before it opens. Nothing was said about when this will take place. I want specific dates before I believe the government.
I guess the "devil" will be in the details as they unfold. Hopefully we won't have to wait until hell freezes over before we find out. So far I'm getting a sense that the job count numbers for QuadC are coming in lower than previously reported (remember how they got larger the longer the project was delayed and the larger the building was going to be?)...and the fab number will be lower than previous predictions for a generic fab. But I could have missed something. At least now we have names of tenants.
This is a start ... But it will not live up to its potential unless both state and local governments address all those things that the governor identified in his speech as having driven people and jobs away. The new jobs announced are heavily subsidized by the taxpayer, which subsidies are not a sustainable economic development model.
So after ten years of squatting and grunting and spending millions while promising billions Nano poops out 1,400 jobs. Wow, what a game changer.
All of the job numbers are actually lower than thought and most of the large investment numbers are projected out over ten years. Also notice no cost to taxpayer figures were mentioned? The tab is hundreds of millions. The bottom line is that it is a very modest project and sure not "transformative." PS. Tenney claims that many of the GE jobs will be in Malta, not Marcy.
Well, when you have Picente & Cuomo playing grab asz with each other you can rest assured that someone will get screwed.
The taxpayer is on the hook for millions upon millions for a very modest upside. It is near embarrassing to hear and watch local politicians and media types making fools of themselves hyping these projects. They are very small investments with limited economic impact relative to a very large government expenditure. That certainly is not a game changer for the area.
AMS is an international company with 1800 employees in 20 locations. It is hard to fathom how a company with total world wide employment of 1800 will hire 2000 here.
