Does This Make Sense?

The State just closed Oneida Correctional Facility to save money. Now it is spending $33 million to expand facilities at Mohawk Correctional Facility (which is next door isn't it?).

Employees from Oneida Correctional have been forced to relocate supposedly so the state can save money.  Almost ALL state employees are being asked to take 5 days' furlough without pay so the state can save money (even though their work will still be there when they get back because the state refuses to cut programs).

If the State has all this money to spend on facilities . . . not to mention the $1 BILLION to be given away in the "economic development" contest . . .  why are civil servants expected to take a hit?

That on top of the fortune the state blew on rehab work at the now defunct facility with construction going on around the clock.
I guess we can now surmise that state employees are footing the bill for Cuomo's giveaways & tax breaks to private companies with the right political connections & his farce of an economic development contest. Just unbelievable.

Gov Cuomo is just another in a long line of disappointments running this state. Just what has been accomplished since last Nov. to turn this broken, insolvent state around? This area of the state is just as fogotten as ever . While the governor talks and talks nothing ever changes.

Here's a kicker for ya. At my State job, they will be giving EVERYONE 40 hours of unpaid time off. These positions can't be left un-staffed so while I'm enjoying my time off they will be paying someone else overtime to fill in for me. I will also be working overtime to fill in for the others who are forced to take unpaid leave too. In the end this "money saving program" will actually cost the state more, but hey.... telling the general public that the state is saving money by forcing those evil public servants to take a week off unpaid makes for a nice soundbite. (and someone gets paid big bucks to come up with ideas like this!)

FYI - There are thousands of people who work that same position as I do who in the end will work the same amount of hours as they were originally sheduled, and get paid time and a half instead of straight time for 40 of them.....but the public has bought into it so the politicians have accomplished their goal. They pull the wool over peoples eyes, make themselves sound good and cost the State more money. I Love New York!
