HSR: What's It Gonna Cost Us?

New York state gains $7.3 million in high-speed rail funding
It's nice that NYS gets some support from people paying federal taxes in other states.

But what's it gonna cost US . . . the potential customers?  . . . the NYS taxpayers?

Numbers please. . .

wouldn't it be better to put the money towards something like, oh I don't know--SEWERS??? No businesses are going to come to the area if we can't flush.

We already have a high speed transportation network called the NYS Thruway. 75 mph with minimal delays. And for Mayor Roefaro, it already connects with NYC - WOW.

If the money was spent to eliminate the thruway tolls, economic development in upstate would follow. It is a huge cost detriment for upstate business.

And by the way, the so called high speed train will blow right past the dump identified as Utica. It is what it is.

Utica is not a dump. It's just been beaten down by New York State policies that have caused the economic decline of most other Upstate New York cities... such as keeping the tolls on the Thruway while competing cities in other states have free interstates. Utica has also been victimized by special interests that have led to bad decisions at both the municipal and regional level.

For Utica to come back . . . as it must for this region to survive . . . state policies and local decision must be revisited and changed.

You are joking, right? Take a drive around Utica. From the streets to the housing - it is a dump.

Any other vision would be an illusion.

The money is a paltry amount which will only serve to open a never ending drain on the taxpayer's wallet. All for a flawed concept.
