Partisan Potshots . . .

Sen. Griffo has joined other Senate Republicans in taking potshots at Gov. Patterson's proposed changes to the Empire Zone program. They are Phony Fiscal Conservatives.

The public recognizes the Empire Zone program as being rife with abuses and an outright failure at being a job producer. If Mr. Griffo et al aren't going to push to simply end the program all together, the least they can do is support Gov. Patterson's proposals to curb it.

You are 100 % correct. They give all these tax breaks to the commercial property landlords. Do you think they pass this on to the renters? Nope. That is why there are so many empty buildings for years in the so called Empire zones. This whole mess should be investigated. Mr Griffo needs to be a little more realistic. If this was his personnel money investments would he still be in business. Nope.

The Empire Zone program was originally designed to be used sparingly. But, as usual, every politician had to have at least one. This rendered the program useless to its intent and led to the many abuses that now plague it. Both parties are to blame. The whole State should be a "zone" of reduced taxes and regulations!
