Getting Carried Away . . .

The yoga-in-school trend continues . . . Bradley Elementary School students combine yoga with reading.
During the program, which is themed “Get Carried Away With Reading,” students will participate in various programs and activities such as YogaTales, which visited the school Tuesday.
Take a look at the kids in the article's picture . . . not one book in front of one student. You can just imagine how much "reading" these kids are really learning.

And some people wonder why taxpayers get steamed . . .

I'm not sure why taxpayers would get steamed on this - it's a few day thing, paid for (entirely) by the PTA.

It is part of PARP (Parents as Reading Partners). This year's theme encourages kids to explore new things thru the vehicle of reading. The yoga is just one step further outside the "norm" for most kids - many of whom spend huge chunks of time in front of a TV or video game.

Damn that PTA for trying to get my children away from the TV! Exercise for kids?!? Just when obesity is reaching epidemic proportions?!? How could they?

Seriously. Your strong suit is gathering facts before you write. I wish you had done it in this case.

It's another distraction . . . among many that creep into the curriculum. School time is simply too valuable to waste in this manner.(See the later post, today, for another distraction).

Reading schmeading. The kids are getting another taxpayer paid play day AND getting indoctrinated with oriental religion and socialism all at the same time!

When you consider all of the print stories, TV reports and descriptions, etc., of school "programs", one wonders if any basic teaching is going on in our schools? The point is one of how time is allocated, not the healthy body/ healthy mind relationship.
