Rep. Hanna's "Common Sense" . . .

From Rep. Hanna's Facebook account this morning:
"This morning I voted to pay federal employees who have been furloughed because of the government shutdown. . . .  It isn’t fair for employees to be involuntarily furloughed and lose pay because of Washington’s inability to approve a spending plan. I commend my colleagues on both sides of the aisle in the House for approving this commonsense measure, and I urge the Senate to quickly send this bill to the President’s desk."
How does this work, Congressman? Are you saying that if furloughed federal employees are not working we are going to pay them anyway? For doing nothing? That's not "Common Sense" --- It's "Nonsense."

Now is the opportunity for you and your Republican colleagues to put your money where your mouths are . . . not only on Obamacare, but on the debt ceiling and our out-of-control federal spending.

Do what the President refuses to do: PRIORITIZE, then cut.

Put the employees in the programs we really need back to work -- and layoff the rest. A Federal Job isn't welfare. People in the private sector are laid off every day and government employees should expect no different treatment. Or are you afraid of prioritizing Federal Spending for fear of offending some of your favorite groups on the dole?

We sent you to Washington to make tough decisions, but you've become like everyone else!

Since when is working for the Federal Govt. akin to being on the "dole"? Putting Federal employee's in the same category as welfare recipients who sit home & collect benefits is just plain idiocy. Gimme a break.

Politicizing federal funding has always been the hallmark of this administration. Previously, there was plenty of funding in place to have the IRS ILLEGALLY badger the TEA Party members and their contributors. But now, as the last election turned the political complexion of the House, the ultra-liberal economy-busting budget is being defunded. Now the administration looks to again politicize this issue by crafting cuts where it will hurt the citizens the most. The administration is attempting to turn Americans against the Tea Party Republicans. This is political saber-rattling that is being skillfully premeditated to break the backs of the Conservative Tea Party Republicans and rein in the remaining spineless fence sitting House Republicans.

Oh, please. The Tea Party folks don't need any help turning people against them. They do a great job of looking ridiculous all by themselves.

What exactly, Anonymous 11:50, have the Tea Party folks done that makes them look ridiculous to you?

I don't agree with the ideology of the blog or the attacks on Federal employees, but I do respect the willingness to stand for what the writer believes in.

The Republicans no doubt have caused the shutdown and have done so under the premise that they're so-called fiscal watchdogs. However, it's all politics because, as usual, they'll piecemeal the return of the employees and programs under pressure. Kind of like when they approved the airport funds during the last debacle.

Again, our ideologies on these federal issues may be different, but I respect the writer for holding his party and representative accountable for the smoke and mirrors. I would also respect, even if disagree, with the GOP in D.C. if they'd actually follow through with their rhetoric. Do it and see how it plays out in the mid-terms.

One thing you have to give the Democrats credit for in 2008 was that they did push their agenda through. They went for the Cap and Trade, Obamacare, etc. They paid the price in the 2010 mid-term, but they did what they said they would do. Now the GOP needs to step-up and do the same.

No attack was made on federal employees, Jr. But if we are paying federal employees not to work then it becomes welfare not work. And maintaining programs, jobs, etc., that have little to no value to the general population becomes a form of welfare too. Is the purpose of the program, any program, "X," or is it just an excuse to pay people that have political connections?

I see what you're saying and I actually agree with you. This is the status-quo for both parties. They love rhetoric but when it comes time to act on it, they all clam up.
