Cannibalism!

Indium receives $1M from state to expand
Indium Corp. will move “selected” operations, including machinery and equipment, from its offices on Lincoln Avenue to a new facility on Success Drive in Rome.
The project will be supported by $1 million in a state grant and tax benefits, and $100,000 via the city of Rome.
It's interesting how often taxpayers pay for companies to move from Utica to Rome. Now people will have to drive farther (with $4.00/gal gas) to go to work! Even a move to the NH Business Park would have been preferable.

And Utica just sits there and takes it

Disgusting.

The company should be able to move where it wants. It is a sin that the taxapyer has to pay for part of it. Also, it's a good bet it got below market land/and or lease rates at Griffiss. Just another example of dumb, costly politics with a good dose of crony capititalism.

The building in Rome is ready to go and no modern structure of its type exisits in Utica. You would have to build new $$$$$.

Besides, would you want to build in Utica? Bad roads, bad taxes and bad politicians. Not me...

Yeah, I don't understand why a profitable corporation needs state and city (!!!!) money to move its operations a few miles down the road. Shame on them. Maybe Rick Short's beard can explain it to me.

Why should a wealthy, prosperous company get tax breaks and grants in the first place? How many jobs are involved? Are they simply re locating or expanding employment? Does the Greater Utica Area not have any modern buildings? What were the choices. How about the old airport? Did the county try to market the former Fed building or does it want to convert all buildings to non taxpaying uses? Did the EDGE undercut the private marketplace, again? Are there not empty buildings in the Utica Busines Park? There are many questions to this deal that should be answered by the county and the Mayor of Utica. If Utica cannot compete for business uses, ita tax payers should be told why?

Amen to the last Anonymous! Uticans and NY State taxpayers should get answers to those questions.

There are vacant NEW buildings in Utica ...Such as the brand new 90,000+ sq ft warehouse built with a LOT of taxpayer assistance between Oriskany and Whitesboro streets that was recently vacated by Hyosung.
