Giving and Taking by EDGE. . . .

Giving:  A small firm is given $15,000 to expand and hire one employee via a county "micro enterprise" grant.
The grant program, administered by Mohawk Valley EDGE, uses federal Community Development Block Grant funding through the state Office of Community Renewal.
This is another example of federal spending that MUST be eliminated. Taxpayer money should not be given away to anyone. . . . More so taxpayers' children's money.    The federal government should not be allowed to borrow for this.

If the proprietor has a good idea that will work and generate income, he should look for a loan or sell a share to an investor to expand his business. The government should stay out of private business.

Taking:  Marcy woman forced to sell property in eminent domain battle with MV Edge
A Marcy woman has spent her golden years fighting her own government for land that's been in her family for more than 100 years and on Thursday, she lost that battle. . . .
Officials with Mohawk Valley EDGE said they need the property to make adjoining land more appealing to chip-fab plants, which they've been trying to lure to the area for years.
It is simply wrong for EDGE to use the power of eminent domain to deprive a person of their own property. What kind of country have we become to tolerate this?

This is Oneida County-sanctioned, folks.   Remember on election day which legislators and county executive are supporting EDGE.

Taking the land from the elderly woman was just plain wrong. But it leads to to this question. After all these years ( maybe 10) the EDGE people wake up and say we need this land to make our site attractive? What kind of developer starts a project and wakes up and says I didnt buy enough land? Oh it the same one that says we are shovel ready and dont need a wetlands permit. Edge is a joke. As far as the election goes I have to agree with you. The problem is the area voters dont feel that one vote they have can make a change. They are way too busy just making ends meet, paying higher taxes, utilities, and get through the day to day red tape in the lives they live to pay attention to this. Recall rights would be great. Can anyone tell who is running who would promise to replace the leadership at Edge and have the ability to replace them in the for profit corporations they have formed. It is a tangled web that needs to be swepted away by one large broom...I wish we had a broom factory big enough to do that, but I dont think the economic development fols could attract a even a broom factory to this area.

The very idea of gifts to select comapnies and individuals is a misuse of taxpayer funds. Also, the EDGE is supposed to be a non profit, non partisan group. It receives our tax dollars, dollars from all of us of various political stripes. And, who announces this grant? A sitting County Executive in an election year. The EDGE should remember the old adage that one who lives by the politcal sword may die by it.

This ain't your grandfather's USA. The poor woman in Marcy evidently doesn't have good connections. I have never heard of a politician or one connected to such losing their land to E.D. (the land stealing kind.)

The area politicians who are supporting EDGE are the same old suspects that sold this area out to Sheldon Silver & other Albany power brokers as far as the new chip plant being built north of Albany is concerned, which is in Silver's district. The site in Marcy was nearly shovel ready in comparison to the one in Silver's district. But we were sold down the river by area politicians who are only out for their own personal gain & to hell with what is good for this area. Destito was rewarded with a job in Albany & Griffo will be rewarded come election time when the Dems run a no name candidate ensuring his reelection. Talk about pay to play. Pathetic is a better description.

I think you meant to say Joe Bruno. The chip plant was built in his district.
